Movie Heroes and Villains

Everything Explained Through Flowcharts is a recent book by Doogie Horner (2010, Harper) which, according to the author, compresses information through the use of Advanced Infographic Layout Technology (AILT). And that downloading this information (i.e. reading it) might result in feeling woozy.

No, as you may have guessed, it’s not a serious book. Yes, it is funny. Covering subjects such as Alien Sex, Drinks Only College Students Order, and Things People Say To My Dog, the book is irreverent. But strangely systematically so through a range of different Graphic Organisers.

Despite the assertions of the title, more than flowcharts are used. Here is one such example. In the section Heroes and Villains we meet characters from Hollywood. The Action Heroes are given scores for Intelligence, Acting, Charisma, Strength, Fighting Skill and Humour. Horror Villains are judged on Cunning, Evil, Strength, Durability and Speed.

Both sets of scores are captured on a Spider Diagram as shown  below on the two examples from the Action Heroes section: Jason Bourne and John Rambo. As you can see icons represent other attributes.
The Spider Diagram offers a rapid and clear way of representing the profile scores in a way that helps comparison across characters.
